Throughout the ages Jewish communities have been the victims of hatred and persecution. Never before, though, has there been an organised extermination programme on the scale of the Nazi Holocaust. The enormity of the tragedy is such that the pain is still being felt, more than fifty years after the event.
The Holocaust Prayer is an adaptation of the standard El Male Rachamim Memorial Prayer. In it we ask God to grant perfect rest to the souls of the six million Jewish men, women and children who suffered numerous forms of unnatural death at the hands of the Nazis and their associates. It is not a request for revenge against our enemies. It is a prayer that the souls of the martyrs should find eternal peace and that, in their merit, the Jewish people should never have to endure similar tragedies.
